Douglas Murray, City Architect (1969)

The Magistrates’ Court is located on Speedwell Street, next to Speedwell House (currently being refurbished for occupation by the County Council) and the Catholic Chaplaincy.
The building has brutalist elements – such as the ribbed, cast rectangular concrete panels on the facade (some of which have seen recent repairs – see photos above), the narrow columnar windows, the concrete pillars. Is it truly a brutalist building? Hard to tell for sure without seeing inside – which to be honest, I’m keen to avoid.
Address: Oxford Magistrates Court, Speedwell Street, Oxford OX1 1EE
