Oxford Architects Partnership (1971)
The architects of Oriel’s modernist Senior Common Room have taken advantage of an old window niche in the ancient stone wall (which is listed, although their SCR is not) that lines Magpie Lane to insert a new structure. Here, it appears the old building is shedding its skin to reveal a new self.
The rather fine three-dimensional glass box windows of the SCR look out (and down) over Magpie Lane… incidentally affording members a fine view of Corpus Christi’s modernist Magpie Lane Annexe.
