St Columba’s Church

TP Figgis (1914) and E Brian Smith (1960)

St Columba’s Church on Alfred Street (which runs down from the High Street to Blue Boar Street) was built in 1914 to a design by TP Figgis.

In 1960, however, the front courtyard was replaced with the current flat-fronted vestibule of stone and brick, with a plain iron cross above the door, designed by E Brian Smith.

It forms an understated but welcoming entrance to the church.
