Vaughan and Margery Fry Buildings

Philip Dowson, Arup Associates (1962-1966)

There are a number of Philip Dowson buildings in Oxford; indeed there are three at Somerville College, including the Vaughan and Margery Fry buildings overlooking Little Clarendon Street.

Utilising the concrete “exoskeleton” features that would later appear on his Stavertonia buildings for University College and the Sir Thomas White Building for St John’s College (amongst many others), the Vaughan and Margery Fry buildings were built to provide student accommodation for undergrad and postgrad students respectively.

Address: Vaughan/Margery Fry House, 14 Little Clarendon St, Oxford OX1 2HT
